Follow along for shorter operations notes.
- The symptom, not the diagnosis. Tell me what you are seeing, the number nobody trusts or the handoff that keeps failing, rather than what you have concluded is causing it. The conclusion is usually the interesting thing to test.
- Roughly where you are. Headcount, how fast you are growing, and whether the friction is between two teams or inside one.
- What you are running on. CRM, database, accounting, and whatever is wired between them. If nobody is sure what is connected to what, that is a useful answer too.
- What “fixed” looks like. Even roughly. A month-end close that takes a day instead of a week, a report both teams believe, an automation nobody has to babysit.
